When your fellow Mommies realize how much you love kids, then your house becomes the frequent spot for play dates.

This is usually the case at mine, as my kids also love to have their friends around.

Play dates are a great way to let the kids have fun but it can also be a daunting task if you’re unprepared .

Here are a few steps I take whenever the kids have their friends coming over.I ensure they have a few activities lined up like watching a movie, taking turns at video games, swimming and outdoor games.

It’s important to keep the kids occupied as they get restless with little or no activity.

Food is a very important part of any play date. I ensure we have a variety of meals to cater to all the kids. I also make sure they have snacks in between, as this is a good time for the kids to relax and take a break from other activities.

Never forget to ask their parents for meal preferences and allergies.

I always preach the dreaded gospel to my kids about sharing with their with friends, and all is well until one kid gets bossy and the other gets possessive. This is usually the time to step in, hear each child out and work out a compromise. Sometimes it’s best to just take away the toy. Thankfully, most kids forget and move on almost immediately.

Finally I make sure the kids are supervised closely, and there is a dedicated staff making sure everything is fine.

I always take advantage of opportunities to let the kids socialize and find themselves. It’s part of the growth process, building friendships and creating memories.

I  recently attended a Mom’s forum, and it afforded me the opportunity to catch up with my good old friend, Amaka Bension.  Amaka is a keen cook who has always been fond of sharing recipes and weekly menu plans with family and friends on her blog, ‘Maky’s corner’.

I was super excited to receive a copy of her recipe book, ‘Micah’s Meals’.

From Finger food to fruit and vegetable meals, ‘Micah’s Meals’ contains quick and easy recipes for babies, toddlers and beyond.

This gives babies a happy, healthy start in life; allowing them enjoy yummy, healthy, homemade meals, lovingly prepared from the very beginnings. It also aids with transitioning from toddler to adult meals.

It’s been very nice making meals for my little ones, especially my 14-month old with the help of ‘Micah’s meals. I’ve successfully tried out a few of these recipes and my baby loved them…well most of them.

I’d share some of these recipes and some of my own tricks if you would like me to.

The best thing about the book ‘Micah’s meals’, is simply knowing that your baby is being fed with natural, healthy and tasty ingredients.

“Nothing compares to the joy and satisfaction of preparing your own homemade baby food from scratch. Best of all, it is made with love…” Amaka Benson.
